Blue Fin 48
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 48 ft 4 in long, lean power cruiser by Sam Devlin, conceived as the accommodation of a 30 to 34 ft boat stretched over a 48 ft semi-displacement hull. The aim is a couple's boat for the run from Puget Sound to Alaska that stays quiet and smooth from 8 to 16 knots. With only 11 ft of beam and 14,800 lb, she cruises at 14 knots on about 4.4 gallons an hour from a 150 to 225 hp diesel.
Only study plans are published, alongside custom builds by the Devlin yard. A hull this long is a serious multi-year commitment for a well-equipped, experienced builder. As a rough rule of thumb, allow 6,000 to 8,000 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Blue Fin 48 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
